THE NEW ECONOMY AND PHILIANA

There is increasing momentum for alternate forms of the economy. Sometimes called the positive, caring, sustainable or new economy, it includes rapid and disruptive components, such as the sharing economy, breakthrough capitalism, impact or blended-value investing, ethical (or value-based) banking, new legal structures for business (B Corps) and social finance. It includes broad-based well-being metrics and many other developments that are blending into “mainstream” economics.

These new economic forms combine emergent technologies with a humanistic and holistic perspective of the human being. Collaboration instead of competition, awareness of consequences and implications of consumption, notions of “shared value”, “true-price” and “social finance”, the impact on fellow human beings and the environment in economic transactions and behaviors takes increasing precedence. The mantram  “do no harm, but seek to do good” is spreading.

Philiana is an initiative that directly fosters a more generous relationship to, and handling of, money within the context of the new economy. Working with the idea that money represents a bridge that can connect, rather than separate, human beings, Philiana has developed methods and trainings thru which participants directly experience the liberation and joy of connection that gift money offers.

Predicated on a theory of change that focuses on individual transformation as the foundation for community and, ultimately, societal development, Philiana works with individuals in small groups in an experiential basis to unlock patterns and traditional assumptions of money and personal needs. The trainings and seminars demonstrate how money, even in small amounts, can be a means to understand, engage with, and connect to others. Indeed, through the medium of money, the powerful experience of human interest and nearness is fostered. This experience can be a catalyst for a remarkable transformation in how we relate to our money, and, more importantly, ourselves and others.
